September 23, 2011

We got mom settled into her room last night but she had so much pain medication on board she didn’t really know what was going on.  As Dianna (my sister) and I were leaving our brother Dave came in.  We had him stay for a bit and talk to her before she fell asleep.  But before we left he asked to take us to breakfast in the morning.  Hells yes!!
So at 9 AM he calls wanting to know where and when.   9 AM!  I know for most this isn’t early, but I’m on my break from school and really want to sleep in one day.  Oh well.  Didn’t hurt me none and I got free food.  Thanks Dave.
I think we are all starting to realize that mom is going downhill fast.  She even mentioned to the social worker herself about how forgetful she is getting and not feeling well.  But all in all, she was in good spirits today and even went out into the dining room and ate with the others instead of alone in her room.  It was only one meal, but it’s a start.
You see my mom is what some would call a hermit, unsocial, or… I’m not sure.  You insert your own word here.   Its not that she doesn’t like people its just that she does not know what to say to people she does not know and hates to watch the people in the home that can do nothing for themselves (like eat and such)  They make a mess of themselves or make moaning, growling sounds.  Makes me giggle because they are just old, nothing else really, but I see her point.  I don’t like seeing them either.
Mom led a very sheltered life.  She married my father when she was 15 and life with him meant moving around a lot and taking care of the kids.  She never really had time to make friends, not with five children and a husband to take care of.   She never held a job and never finished high school.  But don’t think that made her dumb!  She is one of the smartest women I know.  Ask her spelling, math, history, current events, or just plain trivia and she will most always have the answer.   Do want to be on the opposing team from her on trivia night.
Speaking of trivia, I think I’m going to try to get the kids up there to play trivial pursuit with her one night.  Things like that will keep her mind sharp.
Well tomorrow I am going to write a list of some of the humorous things she has been saying these last couple of months.  Like how she was stoned the other day, and how she thought we dropped her off at some high price hotel and left her with all these people that were having sex.  Not sure where that came from, but OK.
Till tomorrow.   Loves
